Memories

How much do we really know about what we have done? If we move a glass from one side of the table to the other and the next second we look back and it has not been moved, what do we do? We have the memory of moving the glass but the physical actions appear to have not happened. We have two options one, we moved the glass twice, once there and once back. Two we never moved the glass. This example may not be very good but the time of this post is to simply ask, what if we do not remember?

Our memories are all we have from most of the actions we do. The relationships we have where two people spend time alone the only thing they take from that their memories of spending time together. A photo can record a moment but lose the photo and you have to rely on your memory of the moment, or of the photo.

When we go on holiday, watch a movie, read a book or even take a walk. Any events we do not to just pass the time but to learn, we are relying on our memory to hold the event. Can you imagine if after you watched a movie you forget everything you just watched? What would be the point in watching it? What if you just spent a grand on a month holiday only to come back and remember nothing? Our memories are something we love and can bring us happiness and joy. If after reading this message you don’t remember this then you have wasted time, time that you may or may not have much of.

Memories allow us to hold onto lost moments. We can remember the times we spent with people who we never see anymore. Moments are important to create these memories but remembering the moment is the true importance of life.

So what if we cannot remember or hold memories? There are people in this world that cannot remember anything past 30 seconds ago. There is one man who is limited to just that. Clive Wearing has just 30 seconds of memory, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDNDRDJy-vo .
If your sad then remember being happy, it may just make you happy. If you have lost someone then remember the happy times you had with them. Something memories can be more comfortable than the moments really were.

TTTP1 Everything is set

This theory assumes that all time is set and all actions are also set. Therefore if one was to travel back in time the events in which would be caused by his actions had already happened. This theory does not answer the lack of tourists from the future, but would mean that any actions a time traveller wishes to do would have already happened. An example would be: A man thinks his girlfriend is cheating on him after coming home from work and seeing his bed sheets slept in and a man leaving his house in the distance. A man wishes travel back in time to check before asking his girlfriend to see if she was cheating on him. He goes back to the time to before the events would have happened. He bumps into his girlfriend and one thing leads to another and they get together in the bed. He then realises he has got to leave quickly because he is about to come in from work. The man then realises his girlfriend never cheated on him and that it was him that slept in the bed.

This would mean any event a time traveller did would not matter because it had already happened. The problem with this is the time traveller may feel secure with knowing this and attempt to change history. Another example: A man hates his dad because his dad cheated on his mother and then killed them both leaving him to be brought up in care. He hates him so much he wants to kill him. The man time travels back to a time before his dad ever met his mum. He planed to shoot him, so he brought his gun and aimed it and fired it. His dad was shoot in the chest but survived and events where unchanged. This was because he was unaware that his dad was shot back before his dad met his mother and the nurse was his mother. This did not change events.

But what would happen if he had shot his dad in the head or tried to go back? Philosopher David Lewis has a theory that time would prevent any events happening that would change time. There for a bird would fly in the way or he would not be able to find his dad etc. This would also mean that it would be unable to prevent him from not being born.

Given this theory it is also possible that although humans are meant to be set going forwards (till backwards time travel), other entities may travel back. Humans use memory to know where we have been and witness what is currently happening. The biggest problem with something going the other way would be changing history. If everything is set it is likeier there are objects that could exist by remembering what is going to happen and see what has happened.

How Time Travel into the Past Could Work

There seems to be more theories on how time travel could not work than how it could work. Steven Hawking said the absence of tourists from the future may mean that time travel is impossible or never developed. The following is not how it could work in physics but how it could work around it.

How Time Travel Could Work

I plan on writing some theories on how time travel could work. The entries will use labels to help stick to single theories and help referencing. I will also be adding the new category “Time Travel”. The theories labels will work on the following idea:
TTTP1 = Time Travel Theory Past 1
TTTF1 = Time Travel Theory Future 1
I may re enter into the same theory and just label it has TTTP1 etc and a new name. I hope you enjoy the following ideas. There will be more theories into the past than into the future due to the whole unknowing of that the future will bring.

Hope or no Hope

A believer will live their life in hope they will go somewhere better. Whether heaven or a new life, they hope for something better. An atheist view is that there is nothing better to come, just to die and rot. Where is hope for the atheist?

Hope can also be on a lower scale like when a child or teenager or even mature adult fails in love with a celebrity. They know the chances of even meeting the person may be unlikely, but they still go on loving them. They hope to be with the celebrity. People who say living in dreams is pointless because it is never going to happen, is only damaging hope.

The lottery the people who enter hope to win, the people who have no hope think they will not win therefore will not enter it.

I hope you enjoyed this read otherwise I would not bother posting it.

The meaning of life

Introduction
There are lots of people around the world searching for answers and no one in actuality knows why we are here. The following will not answer this question nor will provide all of the possible answers. This is purely meant to be an interesting read and to make the reader think.

1 Gods Test
Life could be a test set by god to see weather or not we are worthy of living in heaven with us. There are a lot of religions websites on the internet that talk about the meaning of life as a test. We were created by God and because we were given the choice to be able to rebel against God we are being tested weather or not our faith is strong enough.

If God created man and life in Gods own image and is only testing our faith, then we should live a life following Gods words and just live life praying for the best. This maybe why religion is felt so highly in the world, a world where everyone looks after everyone else and then spends their afterlife in heaven. The world is clearly not full of the “help each other follow Gods wish and be happy” way of life. We should understand that this way of life could bring is happiness and hope knowing that we will go to paradise when we die, if we put our faith to religion.

So why is this not wanted by everyone? In my opinion the reason we all do not believe in God because there are too many religions and the reasons of doubt and “rules” we need to life by are strong. With knowledge has come power and with power has come rebellion. No one likes being told what to do and with God giving us rules as well as life in general having rules, we want to escape. The life of faith is not easy and it makes life easier for some to just say there is not a God and that God does not exist.

Are the rules too hard to life by? The following are the Ten Commandments from (Rev. McGinnis, God’s Rules to live by) at http://patriot.net/~bmcgin/pearl-godsrulestoliveby.html
1. "Do not put anything ahead of God your Creator."
2. "Do not make or worship idols."
3. "Do not take the name of God in vain."
4. "Take one day of complete rest each week."
5. "Honor your father and your mother."
6. "Do not commit murder."
7. "Do not commit adultery."
8. "Do not steal."
9. "Do not tell lies against anyone."
10. "Do not covet other people's possessions."

The above rules do not sound that hard so why do people fail to live by them? Unless the faith is strong people may feel that there is a chance they will just get away with it. We like doing things we are not meant to and braking rules and if god did not want us to break them surely he would have made some way to prevent us from doing so. After all God could have gave us all the power of God and we really would be causing trouble.

Having faith is like having hope it can allow us to become better people and live but forever be limited by Gods “rules”. There are also lots of different versions of Gods “rules” and with out explicit knowledge of these may cause people confusion. Religion is rarely chosen by ones self and is normally passed on from parents. The Parents are choosing for their children the way of life. This could turn out wrong as a story told by person to person can get mixed up and made incorrect (Chinese whispers). The only current way of knowing if this is the right path in life is to live it. God does not set what we should do in life what jobs we should work as where we should live etc. Our life is our life we are given the choice to make our own minds up, but have to give God some of our time.

2 To reproduce
Looking at humans as any other animal on this earth, can show us that we are here to simply reproduce and breed. If we do not breed and reproduce we would die out and the human race would be over. This has more visible proof then the section 1, because we can see failed life forms. The dodo is an example of a failed life form. Maybe we are only here to spread as much as we can.

This meaning of life is very narrow minded and does not include answers to what is the point of homosexuals or women after the menopause. A possible to the latter is to pass down knowledge and to help her children. There really is not a point of infertility and homosexuals because they can no reproduce.

We also may cause problems such as running out of food because we become too big. This meaning of life is a very basic meaning and does not give any glory and hope that section 1 gave.

If this is the meaning of life then what do we do? If this truly is the meaning of life then an answer to the question is, what ever we want to as long as we are reproducing. Men should have sex with as many women as they can and spread the human race as much as possible. We should teach our children only to reproduce and survive. This does not sound very nice and misses out some very important things to some people such as love and marriage etc.

This meaning of life could work and does seem to be working. We are reproducing and we are continuing the human race. We have been looking for answers when there really is not any to look for because they are in front of us. This theory would mean that all the scare of infections and diseases are just a battle of survival and we should continue to breed and hope the human race cures itself. This would also mean there is nothing to live for if we did not want to reproduce and there is no reward to living a good life.

3 To find Happiness
The meaning of life could just be to find ones soul mate and to just be happy. The human race would still very much depend on the theory from section 2, but life would be more about finding happiness and enjoying life and just enjoy ones life.

This theory is all about finding happiness for oneself and does not really help mankind or each other. It is saying the meaning of life is everyone should find happiness and seek out happiness. We do not always know what we will lead to us being happy and our life may turn out completely different from what we wanted but seeking and planning to find a way to be happy is a meaning of life.

4 Just Live
Life should be about living. We should just live and enjoy life. The meaning of life could simply be to live. We could be here to simply live our life and die. This would mean there is no afterlife and there is no real propose of life but to just live. We would be able to live everyday as we wanted and just live.

But that is not a meaning but just something to do isn’t it? Well yeah it is and it means there is no real meaning. We are here to live and we shall live. Even if we do not like living and choose to end it, we have still lived a life. Life in this theory has no propose but is just like a rollercoaster ride. We have ups and downs a start and a finish. In the end we all get off the ride it is what happens on the journey that makes it life.

Conclusion
The above was not meant to answer the question but just talk about some possible reasons of life. The real answer to the meaning of life may never been answered. Even if it is answered some people may refuse to believe it. The real answer to why we are alive should not be answered by someone else but should be answered by oneself. We may spend ages wondering why we are here and it is normal. The journey we spend looking for the answer maybe our life. We are alive and why we are alive and for what propose does not really matter. It is how you choose to live your life. There are people that say the meaning of life is unknowable, that is incorrect the knowledge is knowable but weather or not we will know it is unknowable. Just live your life and believe what you want to believe. The knowledge of life should be passed on so others can better understand, but should not be forced upon them as it is there right to make their own choice.

There answers of others may not apply to you but that does not mean they are wrong. It is your life and you may only get one so live it.

Personal choice

Life should not be dictated and should be the result of personal choice. Before you tell someone off or become against something someone is enjoying and is their personal choice ask yourself “does it harm me or someone else?” If the answer is yes then ask yourself “how does it harm me?” Work out if their pleasure is greater than your harm or others harm. Example would be, a neighbour playing loud music. The loud music is harming you because it will affect your work the following day. It effects has potential to affect you financially and emotionally. Therefore telling them to turn the music down may be a good idea.

Another example would be a same sex couple living together. It does not cause any real harm to you or anyone else what they choose to do with their life is up to them not you. Consider other peoples wishes not in terms of personal gain but in the way it affects others. The personal choices of others and the life’s others live are their own choice. If it affects you or causes direct harm to others than it is a problem. Real problems are murder, rape, stealing and fraud. Same sex relationships, sex before marriage, the clothes people wear, the jobs they lead and the people they chose to be around are their own choices and it is their life to lead. Worry what people need not what you think they need. It is your life it is your choice it is their life it is their choice.

Free Range vs. Caged Chicken Eggs

This is only a short entry but keeps bugging me every time I hear free range eggs. Free range eggs means the chicken is allowed to be free and have a nice life and whist producing eggs. Caged eggs means the chicken was locked up with loads of other chickens in small areas and might not have even seen day light to give us eggs to eat.

The choice I would pick is the caged eggs over the free range! I know it sounds cruel so let me explain. The chickens are tortured and abused just to give us eggs. Their eggs are the result of a very hard life. The free range chickens have a nicer life. I picked caged eggs as if any eggs should be left to waste I feel it should be the free range ones. The supermarkets and shops have already paid the money to the farms and if the eggs are not used the chicken is being tortured for nothing. I hope you understand by choice even though it is a more controversial choice.

EDIT:
There has been a lot of complains over the above entry. Let me say it again in another example. There are two packs of eggs one free range eggs and one caged eggs. These two packs of eggs have already been brought and are just sitting there waiting to be used. I would pick the caged ones as I feel they should not go to waste. I feel that if something is put through a lot of pain and made to suffer so we can eat. We should at least eat it and not just waste it. The farms should sell them and the farmers should not be doing it. The problem is allowing farmers to do it. I do understand though that farmers need to make money and do not always make enough to live.

If philosophy is talking about random possibilities and these may never happen why do we need to know about them?

This is one of the most asked questions what I hear about philosophy. I know people doing philosophy and ask them what they think of the course and some go “it’s talking about stuff we will never know and could happen but is unlikely”. The answers I get tend to be very narrow minded. So what if it never happens and it is wrong. It does not matter. A good philosophical theory to me is one that does not have many holes but makes you think and entertains you. Does god exist or can time travel happen? These are great questions that can provide the necessary information for a philosopher to come up with a believable entertaining theory.

So all theories are meaningless and are just for our entertainment? No of course not well some are some are not. If you rule something completely out and say it can never happen, and it then does happen, you will have to spend time working out how it happened. Let me explain. If you said it will never rain on Sunday and the weather said it will not rain and all tests done conformed it would not rain. So you say it will not rain. What if it does rain? What if for some reason it rains and because all your tests said it would not. You did not prepare yourself for rain. If it mattered to you, you might then try to find out why it rained and find out how you can prepare yourself in the future. You have just wasted time finding out why when if you just said it could rain and accepted there was a chance of rain, you may have had the umbrella.

Sometimes thinking about what could happen allows mankind to see into the future. Thinking about how something could happen is both entertaining and rewarding. Philosophy may be just agreements that we may never find the answer. We all like theories even completely unbelievable ones. Next time you watch a movie ask yourself “is what I just watched believable? Could it happen?” You are just putting the theory of the movie to your mind. Think not of what is not possible but that of what is possible.

Cuba Censorship

Following up from the China censorship post and continuing in the censorship selection. The highlights of what I liked were:

"While special permits to use Internet are available to selected Cubans, Internet remains illegal for the vast majority of Cubans".

"Cubans who want to move house cannot go to a real estate agent's office - they do not exist."

"In March of 2003, Fidel Castro arrested and imprisoned over 50 political dissidents along with 26 independent journalists. These independent journalists did not publish in Cuban outlets. They are Cubans writing for newspapers outside of Cuba, mostly in The United States. Their sentences range from 14 years to 28 years. Castro's precious "beloved leader" image was safe with the people of Cuba from these dissidents because they could not legally access any foreign media sources. What was really at stake for Castro was the truth of his brutal, degrading, freedom-hating dictatorship being known to the world. Not that the world doesn't already know about the violations of freedom that occur under Castro, but the daily details, which these journalists reported to the world, must be known. The world should be constantly reminded of the details of the evils of communism under Castro."

In my opinion they are only limited their peoples outcome. Not letting them access the resources needed to expand the mind and come up with new possible outcome could prevent new inventions/discoveries.

Hybrid and Mutant Animals

A friend of mine told me about this website that I should have a look at. The website features hybrid animals such as hybrid cats.

A few of the ones that interested me were the hybrid between leopards and Lions as seen here.

The Swine (wild Boar and Pig) here.

There are also mutant animals like the blue tiger found here.

The rest can be found at http://messybeast.com/genetics/hybrid-cats.htm

The whole site is worth a look with it featuring other thing such as extinct animals found at http://messybeast.com

The Butterfly Effect and the Butterfly Effect 2

Having just watched the first two Butterfly effect movies, I can see that they are both with their holes and forgot all about the black outs from the first one.

The story of the first one is a man who suffers blackouts and memory loss as a child is told to write a journal. He has some very dramatic events in his live and manages to blackout during these events. During a date his date asks for him to read from his journal and he realises he has the ability to go back although believes it was only a dream. He tries again and burns himself only to have the scar when he awakes. The movie is good till about half way where he goes back and stabs his hands to prove to someone he has a connection to Jesus. This is forgetting the whole butterfly effect. If a young boy would have cut his hands like that his life would have been different.

The way I believe the above could be possible though is because they already were planning to see a doctor over the picture he drew, they may have managed to live the life the same way. But even going to the hospital and calling his mother up would probably have changed something.

The second movie was a lot better the second time around but still lacks something that the first had. The start of the second movie reminds me some how of a Final Destination movie. The blood to make the 2 in The Butter Fly Effect 2 logo was very comedy horror. The second movie is about a guy who gets to use the ability to see how his life would be if he would have had his girlfriend or made deals at work. The movies it makes everyone life have something very wrong. I would recommend the movies as I enjoyed them.

Are gods living among us?

My idea of a god is a creator of a reality that allows life forms to interact with one another. Having watched Eastenders and seen this reality of people acting out another life for us to admire and be entertained. Movies, TV shows and plays and even books are wrote by people creating a world and a reality the people in that world interact with each other and have life.

The writer/directors/creators could be classed as gods with the actors acting out the life. This is a preset reality in which has been created. The gods have created a world and even universe on a smaller scale just for our enjoyment.

I do understand people may not get what I am trying to say or will just completely rule it out as utter rubbish but what I am saying is that if someone creates something they could be classed as a god over that object they had power to create it. Think about worlds in video games with artificial intelligence, they are full worlds but just scaled down. The people who made those worlds are creators of that world and the creator of our world and what we call reality could be called god. So are gods living among us?

Always looking forward till it is too late.

I have always looked towards something such as the weekend or a holiday etc. If one is always looking forward and making plans for stuff to do then they are not really enjoying what life is. Life is very limited and the older you get the more you realise that this world is going to pass faster and faster. I am nearly 21 and it seems like just a few weeks ago I was 20.

John Lennon once said "life is what happens to you while your busy making other plans" (John Lennon, Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy), 1980). I first heard it aged around 10 or 11 and did not understand it. The quote becomes more meaningful the older you get.

I recently had a girlfriend who showed me that time matters we were given almost a time limit before she had to go back to her country. This meant that although we could plan to meet each other we were wishing days away yet at the same time hoping the days would go as slowly as possible.

This can applied to everyone most people long forward to the weekends and hope the work days go faster. We could be losing days, weeks and even years. I am not saying that I do not look forward to events I am just saying it is important to truly look around and admire this world.

Religion: why the atheist view “there is no god” view could be bad

Religion is a touchy subject and people that believe in god tend to be very restricted in how they talk about a universe without god.

I have asked a number of believers what if there is not a god and the reply I get is there is a god. Having an argument about how they could be wrong can be sometimes even violent.

We are forgetting another strong view, the atheist view. They believe to not believe a deity i.e. a god or powerful being. I used to class myself as an atheist but I feel denying lots of written word older than a lot of history books, can make me narrow-minded.

Having seen lots of atheists and them argue that they could not be a god because we would have detected it or it cannot exist because it cannot be sensed and coming out with lots of science views.

I asked the same question I asked the god believer but the other way around. What if there is a god? He replied there is not a god because it is impossible for there to be a god that could create something as complex as the universe. My reply was “you are only thinking of what we can relate to”. He did not understand what I said so I explained that although what god is meant to have done is impossible for anything on this world to do does not mean it is impossible for something outside of this world. He said something like so god is an alien. He is still very much thinking only in this world and what can be proven by us. Where I was thinking of outside of the universe he found it very hard to think the wide. Now who is narrow minded?

This does not answer the question if there is a god and if there is not a god, nor is it meant to. What this is meant to mean is that although you believe so hard in something it could be wrong. The key word is “could”. If there is any chance any little chance it could be wrong then you should not completely rule it out. The whole god or no god argument is very hard to say there is or there is not. You could say there is not a god because we can not prove there is. You could say there is a god because we can not prove there is not. We could go on and on. The main point of this is that a believer in god believes that if they honour and worship their god. Good will happen and if they do not then bad will happen. Think about the worse case. Say there is a god and you have ruled him completely out, that is worse than saying there could be a god. If there is a god and god is all forgiving then all this is meaningless. Let’s say god is as strict as some believers believe then, if you are completely atheist and die and go to god. God may view it as worse than if you believed there could be although could not fully believe it with out proof.

Saying something could be true when it cannot be proven not to be, is better than saying it is not true.

The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelation

Having seen and loved the first The Butterfly Effect and seen the second The Butterfly Effect 2. I did not really like the second movie as I felt it would have been nicer to see a prequel to the first. I did feel it was an acceptable revisit to the universe. This movie was a mess. They were messing up the theory too much for it to be believable. I am a very trusting viewer and I like to accept that although a movie may seem unreal if it is real from within their universes then I accept it. The way I saw the theory and I am sure others feel the same is:
1. Objects such as photos, journals, etc can trigger a flashback where you can revisit a past moment. This is in effect time travel.
2. It would allow one with the ability to change their and those that is affected by their actions.
3. If one was to do something such as save someone from an accident upon coming out of the flashback. The time would have been fixed and the person would have lived and may or may not be alive still depending on weather or not they died since the flashback.

Where the movie goes wrong is it has now lost the need for photos or journals (point 1) and replaced it by the need of a dark bathroom with a bath of ice. This may be possible in their world given that it could induce a state that would allow the transportation into the previous moments/memories.

The movie is about a man who has the ability and uses it with the supervision of his sister to go to crime screens and witness them. He then sells the information claming to be a psychic. This goes against point 2/3 by moving ones self from ones pervious location they would change where they was before. Such as if one was buying food at the time of the murder and later revisited the moment and went to witness the crime, one would not have got food and would then need to still buy it and hence change the course of history. The first movie meant that every change (apart from the Jesus moment) always changed the time when they came out of it. The movie could provide a solution to this problem one being that his life is very boring and he does not change any events. The movie also fails by the fact everyone around him seems to know his ability and the common talk about these rules makes it more annoying than a pleasure to watch. The ending is well completely stupid with the murder unable to provide the information that they give at the time they gave it in the movie. He also breaks the ice rule at the end. Sorry if I have given to much information away I have tried to keep it as brief as possible. I would recommend the movie only to those who enjoy the theory. The movie is watchable and I would watch it again but is not a very believable story. One last point about the whole horror thing, these movies is better in my opinion to be thrillers not horrors, unless you can pull it off and in this case it really cannot. If you do watch the movie I hope you enjoy it as although I have complained a lot I did enjoy it and thought it was nice to go back into the Butterfly effects world.

X-Men Origins Leak

Having just seen the new X-Men movie called X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Yes it was the leak. I am very pleased with it and the movie is over twice as good as the fail that was X-Men the Last Stand. The movie really allows the viewer to learn about Wolverine which was always by favourite X-Men character anyway. The movie shows Wolverine as a child with his brother Victor/Sabre tooth. The movie introduction is also very nice showing Wolverine going through the various wars he took part in. I feel the movie is well done and the story does not fail to entertain. Finding out how and why and when Wolverine got his adamantium skeleton. I would recommend any fans to watch it as well as people who hated X-Men the last stand.

China Censorship

Been reading a lot on China and how over controlling they are. It is easier so say what one cannot do than what one can do. In places not all but in places you are limited to only having one child. That is a nice one to bring it in they are worried about over population. Now for the evil ones, porn, BBC website, google.com (they have Google china), searching human rights on the internet, some video games, Brad Pitt, and many other loads of random stuff are BANNED in the peoples republic of china. Now I bet you are thinking Brad Pitt is surely not banned so here is a quote from an, ok an unquotable website but still a quote all the same “1997: Seven Years in Tibet, for its view on a free Tibet. (Banned outright along with actors Brad Pitt and David Thewlis for life)”
site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_banned_films#China.

Explore new things

I like to explore new unseen things. Travelling to another country has been seen by people before. No one has been able to pollute my mind with a drug so I cannot ever know for sure the out come of a drug on my mind with out trying it. There for I explore something undiscoverable by other people. A hot beach is a hot beach, one mans mind can never be compared to another as there is no way in knowing they are alike. This just means when people say “why don’t you go on holiday?” and I reply with because it is nothing really new and would cost more than I gain. I am just saying there are loads of places in the United Kingdom I have not seen yet why brother going away? That is not to say I would not want to see some parts of the world for research such as China (See next post), Cuba and Amsterdam.
